I endured 3 (more) painful fire ant bites to get this shot of the flooded Lake Myakka in Myakka River State Park last week. This marks my 10th fire ant bite and every time gets worse! My foot swelled up like a grapefruit. Luckily I'm not one of the people that can die from the venom 😳 Myakka is of the oldest and largest state parks and it protects one of Florida’s most diverse natural areas. Myakka State Park sprawls over 58 square miles and 29,000 acres and is based around the Myakka River, which is designated as a Florida Wild and Scenic River. You can see a TON of wildlife in this park, which makes it one of my favorite places to go in all of Florida. The parks river and two lakes provide ample opportunities for boating, freshwater fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Hikers can explore 39 miles of trails that cross large expanses of rare Florida dry prairie wilderness. Five palm log cabins, built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, are available as lodging, and lake tours are offered daily on the world´s largest airboat.
